Camping in Spain

After we had become more confident with going off on our own and exploring France we decided to venture a little further afield and into Spain. I hasten to add this is going back about 20 years. The pesata was still the currency and Spain has just built its first motorway! We stayed at a campsite called Delfin Verde. To be honest its still a popular family campsite right on the beach. It has a large outdoor pool that is in the shape of a dolphin- hence its name- but the pool isnt green?! The campsite is huge but leads directly on to a lovely sandy beach. There is a huge supermarket on site that sells the speciality of every country. There were bars and restaurants and plenty of activity. It is well within commutable distance to the famous or infamous L Estartit. I found that being skint and with young childern the best thing to do was to get a teatime crossing from Dover- to Calais. Stop in France and give them a late tea and I would just drive whilst they would sleep. They would wake up in the morning just as we were entering Spain! I would not lose a days holiday so whilst they were happily playing on the beach I would be cat napping on it! Its great when there are two drivers or we could not have done that safely. The one thing about going that bit further is that you are pretty certain of some good weather. Englsih is widely spoken throughout Spain but they really appreciate it if you have a go! Although things are more expensive than when we first visited Spain still firmly remains cheaper than the UK. As with all these places you have to shop where the locals shop and find local markets and not tourist markets.
Spain is one of my favourite Countries. There is so much more to this place than the beaches and the Costas but they are often overlooked. Actually it suits me fine as I get them to myself! There are places in Spain that makes the Lake District look flat and boring! Yes Spain can hold its own to very green and pretty area. It can hold its own when it comes to history and some of Spains Cities are WOW!!!! I dont work for the Tourist Board but it certainly has better weather! Shall I start there?!
Yes the climate. As you can imagine in summer it can get really hot.40 degrees is not uncommon and just lying on top of the bed at night is hard work with sweat pouring from you. This is the time that the Spaniards come out to play. Whilst I do love the Spaniards anyone will tell you that they are the worst campers in the world! They are noisey and dirty! If it isnt nailed down /they will take it! Last year they not only stole all the sink plugs but shower heads as well! Its not unusual for the childrens animation programme to start at 11pm- it didnt half upset me trying to watch Newsnight! Apparantly they live in appartments in nearby cities and they get the chance to go camping and they just go mad and take leave of their senses. So take some advice and avoid July and August! Prices everywhere are crazy high too. They even put the price of the tolls up on the local motorways!
I am always havining to do this blog retrospectively and its now Feb 2014 so I shall just list the campsites that I have been to in 2014 already!
